 33. Leg 9  - SW Coastal Path 33: Perranuthnoe to Penzance

19 October 2019

October half term and we were really lucky to have Tom with us, especially as he had a new phone with a fantastic camera (well, 3 cameras in fact) so a lot of the arty photos are by him. Mine are the ones with the lens dust splodge! We parked at Penzance, took the bus to Perranuthroe and walked back. Nothing too challenging and we took a detour onto St.Michael's Mount where we watched some filming take place in the grounds. We were staying in an AirBnB in Lizard so final photos here are our evening trip down to the point.

6. Marazion - St Michael's Mount (once a Benedictine Priory, a fortress and tin mining port).

Birds of Marazion Marsh: this important breeding and overwintering site has Cornwall’s largest reedbed and is used by the rare Cetti’s warbler, bitterns,

chiffchaffs, starlings and little egrets. The Reserve has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and there are regular guided walks in the summer

months.

The ancient market town of Marazion, with its very active community of painters and potters. There has been a settlement here since 308BC and the town claims

to be the oldest in Britain, and could be the settlement known to the Romans as Ictis.
